OUR STORY
Cek Bola Pregnancy Necklace
A bola pregnancy necklace, or chime necklace, emits a harmonious subtle bell chime that is said to calm babies and help them sleep, much like a mother’s heartbeat. The necklaces are popular with pregnant women, and also make for beautiful baby gifts. They are shaped in the form of a small cage, which reveals a copper ball that emits the sound.
The sound mimics the tinkle of the mother’s womb and can even soothe newborns long after birth, helping them remember the warmth and care of their mothers. Some mothers even hang a bola above their baby’s cot or sew it into the blanket to provide a sense of comfort to the little one, who recognises the sound.
While some fanciful claims have been made about the origin of the cek bola, it is clear that this unique invention brought joy and peace to many families across Indonesia and beyond. It is an incredible story of determination and ingenuity.
What is a bola?
https://cekbola.net is a strange contrivance of weights connected together by rope. The bola’s weights are usually stone and are held in pouches or sewn into a nexus of cords of leather or rawhide. There are at least three weights, but a bola can have as many as six or eight weights. When the bola is gripped and hurled at a fleeing creature, the weights entrap it by tying around its legs.
The creature grappled by a bola must make a DC 10 Strength or Dexterity check to free itself, and doing so ends the effect. Dealing 5 slashing damage to the bolas also frees the creature.
To make your own bola-bola, first heat 1/2 cup neutral oil in a skillet (or your deep fryer if you happen to have one). Then finely chop 2 carrots, 1 yellow onion and 8 scallions. Add them to a bowl along with 3 garlic cloves and 4 teaspoons of sugar. Whisk to combine and then add a pinch of flour and give the mixture a whirl. Using a cookie scoop, transfer mounds of the mixture to a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper. Dampen your hands with a bit of water to prevent sticking and then roll each mound into a bola-bola shape.
